Origin
SYBAU is an acronym for “shut yo bitch ass up,” a phrase that long existed in speech and rap before being compressed into a texting acronym. It gained heavy traction on TikTok and in comment sections through 2024, where acronyms travel fast because they dodge some auto-moderation and read as in-group shorthand.
How it’s used
It’s a dismissive interjection, usually playful:
- Reacting to someone over-explaining or being dramatic,
- Shutting down an unwanted opinion or spoiler, or
- Joking self-talk (“my alarm at 6am: sybau”).
