Build your version

A comparison works when both halves describe the same situation. These two cards give an expectation and an outcome equal space, so the contrast comes from your writing rather than a familiar reaction photograph. All four captions are editable; you can also use the headings for “Before / After” or “What I said / What I meant.”

  1. Name one small, recognizable plan. A specific action such as checking a notification gives the reader a scene; a broad label such as “my life” asks them to invent the scene themselves.
  2. Write an outcome that changes the scale, duration or effort of that plan. Keep the subject consistent across both cards so the reader can spot the reversal immediately.
  3. Open the layout and replace both headings and both captions in Text. Keep each main caption to a few short lines, then preview the exported image at chat size. If you need more space, shorten the wording before shrinking the type.

Make it work at a glance

  • Give the two main captions similar visual weight. A tiny punchline under a large setup makes the second card look like a footnote.
  • For a reveal GIF, capture a first frame with the outcome caption hidden in Layers, then reveal it and capture another. Hold the complete comparison long enough to read both cards.
  • Use the original landscape canvas for side-by-side reading. A portrait crop can cut off a card; choose Contain if you place the whole layout on a taller canvas.

This template starts at 1200 × 900 pixels. Choose Canvas to change the shape, then Text to edit captions without dragging. Keep labels away from the visual detail that carries the joke. Follow the caption workshop for an example.

Export a still image or capture changing captions in Animate. Save a project file to keep your layers, frames and timing editable. Follow the GIF walkthrough to revise and reorder a sequence.
