Origin¶

The image is fan art, not a screenshot from anything. It was posted to Twitter on April 17, 2019 by an artist working as @tonmoh, and depicts a crossover that exists nowhere else: Nono Morikubo, a character from the idol franchise THE iDOLM@STER, crouched under an office desk while a T-800 Terminator searches the room above her.

The tonal collision is the joke before any caption is added. One half of the image is drawn in soft, bright idol-anime style; the other is a chrome endoskeleton from a film about the extinction of humanity.

The original post took over 1,700 retweets and 4,800 likes.

What it means / how it’s used¶

The format is object-labeling for hiding from something. The girl is labelled with the poster; the Terminator with whatever is looking for them.

Its uses:

• Avoiding a responsibility, deadline or obligation.
• Dodging a person who wants something from you.
• Hiding from a notification, message or bill.
• Any situation where the correct move is to stay very still.

What distinguishes it from other avoidance formats is the asymmetry of threat. The Terminator is not merely inconvenient — it is an implacable machine that does not tire and cannot be reasoned with, which makes the format right for things that will find you eventually.

How it spread¶

An early meme adaptation appeared the same day the art was posted, taking negligible numbers.

Its real growth came through Spanish-language communities between May and December 2019, circulating on Facebook and Twitter well before English-speaking audiences saw it.

It reached Reddit on February 16, 2020, taking 530+ upvotes, and broke out two days later: a February 18, 2020 post took over 79,200 upvotes in a single day, which established it as a general template.

That path — Japanese fan art, Spanish-language communities, then English Reddit, across ten months — is a good illustration of how thoroughly distributed meme circulation has become.
