Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Memefile (memefile.com) is a free encyclopedia of internet memes and slang, plus a browser-based meme generator. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run and improve the site.

Information we collect

  • Usage & device data. Like most websites, our host and analytics record basic technical data — pages viewed, referring page, approximate region, browser and device type — to understand traffic and keep the site fast and secure.
  • Information you give us. If you subscribe to our newsletter we store your email address. If you submit a meme, we store what you send (the meme details and any email you provide). We use these only to provide the thing you asked for.
  • Search queries. We log search terms that return no results — anonymously and without linking them to you — so we know which memes to add next.
  • Preferences. Your theme choice (light/dark) is stored locally in your browser and never sent to us.

Cookies & similar technologies

We use privacy-first analytics that measure aggregate traffic. If we enable additional analytics or advertising (see below), those services may set cookies or read device identifiers to function and to measure performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings and through the ad-personalization controls linked below.

Advertising

We may display ads served by third-party ad networks, including Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • We do not serve ads on pages we flag as sensitive, and we do not knowingly show personalized ads to children.

How we use information

  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the site and its content.
  • To send the newsletter you subscribed to (each email has a one-click unsubscribe).
  • To review and, if suitable, publish memes you submit.
  • To understand demand (via anonymous zero-result search logs) and prioritize new entries.

We do not sell your personal information.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of processors to run the site: our hosting and analytics provider (Cloudflare) and, where enabled, Google (analytics and advertising). Each processes data under its own privacy terms. Meme pages may embed media (for example YouTube or TikTok); those platforms may set their own cookies when their content loads.

Your choices & rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK, or California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to opt out of certain processing. To make a request, email [email protected]. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link in any email.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention & security

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected (for example, your newsletter email until you unsubscribe) and take reasonable measures to protect it. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
